Chris Isaak's music sounds eerily reminiscent of past generations and
is a perfect slice of Americana. Heavily influenced by Sun Studios
legends like Elvis Presley, Roy Orbison, and Johnny Cash – there's no
mistaking this crooners sound. Isaak's rockabilly/1950's flair is a
refreshing alternative from today's mainstream electronic pop music.
After studying in Japan and earning degrees in English and Communication
Arts, Chris formed his first band Silvertone which later morphed into
Isaak's solo group. Chris and company played the clubs of San Fransico
in the early 1980's. By 1985, their sound was developed enough to grab
the attention of a major record label exec.
Issak and friends worked their fingers to the bone recording two
albums in three years. Their major break through came with the release
of Heart Shaped World in 1989. The single Wicked Game launched to the
top of the charts in England and the US. More commercial success was
achieved with the release of the catchy single Baby Did A Bad Thing in
1995.
In addition to music, Chris has put together a successful acting
career starring in Married To The Mob, That Thing You Do!, Twin Peaks:
Fire Walk With Me, and several other motion pictures. He's been on
television quite bit as well starring in the TV mini-series From The
Earth To The Moon, and also appearing on Friends and The Tonight Show.
The Chris Isaak Show was rolled out in March of 2001. The critically
acclaimed series features Chris and other members of his band caught in
crazy comedic situations. Musical guests like Everclear and Greenday
have also appeared on the show acting in segments and performing live
songs with Chris.
Acting is an interest for Isaak, but music will always be his first
love. Fans have waited nearly four years for Always Got Tonight
(scheduled for release Feb. 12th). This CD is a return to the more
joyful and skittish melodies of his mid 80's album Silvertone. Chris'
voice gently flows through new songs like "One Day" and
"Worked It Out The Wrong Way". But this CD also shifts into
unexplored territory with the rocked out 60's sounds of songs like
"American Boy" and "Notice The Ring". A tour in
support of the new album is planned after filming for this season of The
Chris Isaak Show is completed.
